So yea, we opened for the Manic Street Preachers. Some of us were excited. Some of us were alright. Some of us were “meh”.
But we all had fun.
We didn’t get to drink their beer. We got chased out of the artiste tent (accidentally). We found out that James, Nicky & Sean are by far the sweetest guys ever. We gushed like fanboys. OK maybe just Marcus and Shaun. But we got what we wanted – pictures, autographs, and watching our favourite band play our favourite songs at the best show of the year.
Its just like Secondary school all over again.
Except this time, we got a share in a bit of that rockstardom. And thank God for that privilege.
So here’s some documentary proof of our opening for the manics.

We’ve been practicing real hard in the studio for the upcoming album launch concert – as well as our opening slot tomorrow for the Manic Street Preachers. We enlisted the help of Singaporean punkrock legend RAYRULES from Kate of Kale to help kick off one of our songs with his sick guitarlele chops. Little did we know the difficulties involved in playing such a radical instrument with more traditional styles of rock music… But you can always count of the power of FOLK music to save the day!

So we’re opening for the Manic Street Preachers in less than 48 hours. Some of us are stoked, others are kinda “meh” about it – the nerve of such heathens – but I think this video just about sums up how we’re really feeling about this show.
Enjoy. And we’ll see you at the Manics show in less than 48 hours.
Just to get into the manics mood…some videos

PEOPLE! Vertical Rush will be opening for Britrock legends the Manic Street Preachers at their show here on 24 November. If you’re going, do say hi and cheer for us, aiiight? It’d probably help drown out the heckling from the annoyed punters who just wanna watch the manics.
Here’s hoping we’ll get a chance to meet & greet (and maybe get an autograph or five…) James, Nicky & Sean.
For those of you who might be interested in going, you can get more details here.

Hey folks, check out our first-ever album review by Kevin Matthews on his Power of Pop webzine!
“Ten years is a long time in the Singapore music scene. Quite often, in twelve months, you will see a high turnover of bands as new names keep cropping up and the “old” ones kinda fade away…
Vertical Rush – like Force Vomit, Plainsunset and Tiramisu – are rarities, in that even after a decade, they are still plugging away to make an impact on the lives of Singapore music listeners – whoever they might be.
It’s 2008 and the S-ROCK landscape, you might say, is informed by the sound of new indie emo rockers like Caracal and West Grand Boulevard. With their sophomore effort, it appears that Vertical Rush is taking a right old stab at putting their own mark on the genre, loosely speaking…” Click here to read full article.
Thanks for the review Kevin. You’re a legend, and you’re a gem!

Hello out there.. it has been years since the band has done anything blog-like, but we thought it would be good to start giving you all a sneak peek into our lives as individuals and as a group, just so that you know it takes a lot of HARD WORK to keep a band going for so many years! haha
Anyway, we just practiced our set for the launch yesterday. Its damn epic man, like how do people say it? the whole OOMMMGGGGG thingy.
For me personally I’m excited for this album launch to happen though its a pain to organise sometimes. But playing music and especially playing in this band is something very close to my heart, its like a wife to me already.
So keep December 19th free please? We’ll try to put up as much stuff here besides the important details so you know we’re not just rocking up to play another show. Sometimes that happens after you’ve played so many shows.
